Balanced wild game supply
Successful wildlife management lies in continuous habitat protection, and that is why we consider it our key task to create the right balance between forests and the wild game living there.
Wildlife management is the only sector unaffected by EU regulations and, consequently, we can preserve our national characteristics. In light of this, domestic wildlife managers – including Bakonyerdő Zrt. – would like to carry on the excellent work of their renowned predecessors that earned a reputation for the country.
Bakonyerdő Erdészeti és Faipari Zrt. [Bakonyerdő Forestry and Wood Industry Zrt.] operates on a hunting ground of almost 70,000 hectares of geographically diverse and game-rich land that spans from the northern shore of Lake Balaton, across the Bakony Mountains up until the edge of the Little Hungarian Plain.
Wildlife management is a profit-oriented activity, which, tailored to the habitat in question, is carried out to maintain, control and utilise wild game supply. Besides raising profits, we consider it our top priority to create a balance between forests and their wildlife.
As more than 60 percent of the hunting grounds managed by our company are covered by forests, we carry out wildland management on about 1,000 hectares, with a threefold purpose. The main goal of wildland management is to reduce the amount of damage done by wild game and to keep them away from agricultural areas. The second aim is to prepare the wild game for winter: if they are fed properly throughout the year, they can gain more weight and can survive the harsh winter conditions more easily. Our third purpose is for our experts to continuously monitor the quantity and quality of wild game supply on the cultivated wild lands throughout the year and to derive conclusions relating to planning and implementing hunts.
In our characteristically big game territories, we offer opportunities to hunt for red and fallow deer, roe, mouflon and wild boar. The winter scouts, sleigh hunting and carriage hunting can be particularly atmospheric. The quality of the mouflon trophies found on our grounds is above par. Our open-land wild boar chases are traditionally very high-class, which used to attract even the famous Hungarian hunter, Count Zsigmond Széchenyi.
In recent years, approximately five thousand big game were hunted in our woods on average. We carry out a conscious game reduction in our areas while also prioritising quality wildlife management.
Our public limited company maintains three wild boar enclosures with an average size of 340 hectares each, which are located in the Bakonyszentlászló, Monostorapáti and Sümeg regions. Here we welcome hunters who prefer large-scale chases.
We organise both individual and group hunts, according to the hunting season. We have visitors at our hunting grounds from all countries in Europe and also from overseas. The guests who come for hunts or seek relaxation can choose the accommodation that best suits their needs out of six hunting lodges in eight hunting grounds.
